Dr. Mia Diamond grew up in Delaware and volunteered for two summers at nearby Tri State Bird Rescue and Research before being accepted into veterinary school in 1993. Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee in 1997, she worked on the east coast for the next ten years practicing small animal medicine and surgery. In late 2007, as part of a work related transfer, Dr. Diamond and her husband relocated to Chicago. She had always wanted to move her career into exotic pet medicine, and the number of exotic veterinary hospitals in the metropolitan area gave her hope. She spent the next six months attending every exotic medicine lecture and lab she could find, including those at NAVC and WVC. She attended several exotic medicine seminars at the University of Wisconsin - Madison including a rabbit emergency medicine lecture and lab. As part of her commitment to learning exotic medicine, Dr. Diamond also spent a week vet shadowing with Dr. Susan Kellher at Broward Avain & Exotics in Florida.
In June of 2008, Dr. Diamond returned to work and began practicing small animal and exotic animal medicine and surgery at Niles Animal Hospital and Bird Medical Center. Then in the fall of 2008, she was able to fulfill her dream and made the full transition into practicing exclusively exotic animal medicine by coming to work at Ness Exotic Wellness Center. She especially enjoys having the fine mentorship of Dr. Robert Ness and Dr. Richard Nye. She is currently taking appointments two days a week, on Tuesday and Thursday.
Dr. Diamond is a member of the AEMV, ARAV, AAV and AVMA.
Dr. Diamond is also a certified Advanced Open Water Diver and enjoys spending much of her vacation time in the ocean.
