HD CT Scan
In November 2019, Ness Exotic Wellness Center welcomed the latest in advanced diagnostic imaging modality to our practice, a Vimago Pico High Definition CT scanner by Epica. We are the first veterinary hospital not only in the Chicago area, but the entire Midwest, with this capability specifically designated for birds and exotic animals. This is further testimony of our commitment to offer the best possible medicine to your beloved pets.
High-Definition CAT Scan is a fast and efficient method of obtaining incredibly detailed 3-dimensional imaging of your pet. The new designation as High Definition Volumetric Imaging (HDVI) sets this unit beyond conventional sliced Computed Tomography (CT) Scanners, using isometric voxels (3-dimentional pixels) instead of slices to compose a much more precise and detailed image of small patients, such as those species routinely treated in our practice. Our practice uses High Definition CT Scan studies to diagnose and rule out a vast array of conditions as well as plan surgical intervention.
In addition, the Epica Vimago Pico also performs Fluoroscopy, which is live action radiography displayed on a video monitor. This feature is extremely useful in viewing real-time gastrointestinal (GI) motility in birds, rabbits, rodents and reptiles. Images can be obtained while your bird is perched and awake. This is a great benefit when images need to be taken, but the patient is too sick to undergo general anesthesia or cope with manual restraint. It also permits us the capability to perform intraoperative and interventional procedures during the imaging for more precise and targeted therapy.
